LEITR specializes in providing human ocular tissues with rapid death-to-preservation times, recovering 390 donors in 2022 in under 6 hours (average 4h40m). Typical criteria include:

  • Age, race and gender
  • Inclusion/exclusion of other medical criteria
  • Control tissues and tissues with Glaucoma, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, or Diabetic Retinopathy

Our tissue services include:

  • dissection of whole globe or preservation by fixation, freezing, or RNAlater. 
  • pathologically grading of diseased tissue
  • donor ophthalmology records

Custom on-site services include:

  • Culture of primary ocular cells: trabecular meshwork, retinal pigment epithelial cells, corneal endothelial cells, lamina cribrosa cells, Tenon’s or posterior fibroblasts
  • a 28-day Neural Retina Explant Culture Model for gene therapy/ganglion cell survival studies
  • Anterior Perfusion Organ culture model for aqueous outflow system studies
  • Hstological processing of recovered tissues.
  • Biobank of pre-dissected graded tissues
  • Histological slides of normal and diseased donors
